Farm Folk City Folk:

How New Alliances Can Bring Local Food to the Table

Brought to you by

Toronto Food Policy Council

and

Caledon Countryside Alliance

Once again the Toronto Food Policy Council and the Caledon Countryside Alliance are presenting the third annual Buy Local Sell Local Eat Local Event”.  The theme for this year is how we can all work on new alliances to bring local food to the table.  The event has now become a conference with a Friday night public forum and a full day of sessions on Saturday.  The timing has been set to coincide with the end of harvest and at Royal Winter Fair time.

The keynote speaker – Fred Kirschenmann will be up for a triple header – speaking twice on Friday night and then again Saturday morning.  In addition to running the Leopold Centre for Sustainable Agriculture, Fred Kirschenmann is North America’s leading local food advocate and biggest organic farmer.  You won’t want to miss this opportunity to hear what Fred has to say.

In addition, a delegation from Michigan will be joining us for the conference.  As a state that suffered economic hardship with Free Trade, local is key to the Michigan economy.  As a result, many unique ideas have evolved and taken root to support a local food system.

For Friday night, 150 tickets are available on a first come, first reserve basis.  The tickets include full day admission to the Royal Winter Fair. (Please note: complimentary passes have all been reserved.) For Saturday, there will be a $15.00 conference fee charge for food service (including lunch, breaks and the local social).  Reservations should be made on the website.  Payment will be taken at the door and receipts will be issued.

The main funding for this conference is generously provided by the Toronto Food Policy Council and the Caledon Countryside Alliance (with funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation).

The are volunteer opportunities for everybody interested in exchanging helping on Friday or Saturday for a guaranteed pass on Friday or the Saturday fees. .  Please send an email to localfood@caledoncountryside.org.
