Question #1 of 8: On a rating of 1 to 5 with 5 being the highest, where does the environment and issues affecting it rate in your agenda? Please explain.
Ted Alexander, Green Party of Canada Unlike the other parties, the Green Party does not consider the environment merely an issue. The environment is the background against which all other issues must be judged. Everything a government does or considers doing must be evaluated in terms of its effect on the environment. On a rating of 1 to 5 would give the environment a 6 or more. Murray Calder, Liberal Party of Canada I have identified the environment as one of the top four issues that I am highlighting in this campaign. The other three issues are health care, the economy, and government integrity. The environment cannot be looked at in isolation from other key issues. Obviously clean water and air are prerequisites for healthy people. The environment is also closely linked to the economy. Climate change and pollution can become extremely costly to society. At the same time, there are economic benefits if Canada is at the forefront of developing environmentally friendly and energy-efficient technologies.
