Question #7 of 8: What is your position on how we can strengthen environmental education in the public education system?
Ted Alexander, Green Party of Canada The Green Party's main objective is to shift our society towards an economic and social model that understands and respects nature and the limits of what we can do to the environment and still survive. Environmental education will need to be strengthened at all levels of the educational system and throughout our media. The goal is a society that naturally thinks of and understands the environmental impact of any decisions it makes. Murray Calder, Liberal Party of Canada Education, including establishment of curricula, is a provincial responsibility. However, the federal Department of the Environment does provide resource materials that can be used in schools. This should be encouraged. Outside of the school system itself, the federal government can assist with student exchange programs that have an environmental component.
