2nd ANNUAL LOCAL FOOD EVENT - BUY LOCAL - SELL LOCAL

Community Farmers Markets

Wednesday February 25th, 2004

Country Heritage Park – Gambrel Barn

Milton, Ontario

The focus of this year’s event is Community Farmers Markets.  This type of market gives local farmers and producers direct access to consumers and it gives consumers access to fresh locally grown food.  Community Farmers Markets have proven to bridge the gap between urban and rural communities to the economic benefit of all, while promoting the development of a healthy local food economy.  Co-sponsored by the Toronto Food Policy Council and the Caledon Countryside Alliance, this day-long event is a must-attend for:

  • Farmers/growers/producers looking for new opportunities;

  • Market organizers looking to recruit farmers and find out how to make their market more successful;

  • Communities interested in starting a market;

  • Agricultural groups in support of members;

  • Nutritionists and public health groups promoting healthy accessible food;

  • Environmental groups interested in protecting local farmland; and,

  • Economic development officers and urban planners interested in building strong communities.
