Q3: Caledon's Economic Development Strategy appears to be similar to our            neighbour's.  It is also a stated objective to have more people live and work in             Caledon. With the current stock of high priced housing, how does your Economic Development Strategy plan to attract firms with high paying jobs and fit with Caledon's image and reputation?

Mayoral Candidates:

Norm Calder

"My Council of ’92-94 created the Town’s Economic  Development  Department  and zoned the Industrial/Commercial lands in the south Bolton Community. Plans for the infrastructure in that area were created and video/print advertisements were sent world-wide to promote that Caledon was open for business."

"I had advocated and received potential financial assistance to lobby the province  for an Institute of Technology and Advanced Training Facility to prepare our youth with the job skills necessary for the worlds of today and of tomorrow. These objectives fell by the wayside for self-promotion of our politicians, whilst the world began passing us by."

I would continue to pursue the ambitions of such an institution !"

Garry Moore

"Caledon has not been successful in attracting the right types of businesses to accommodate the living styles of our residents.  This will be a top priority for me as Caledon's new mayor.  I have seen first hand other municipalities successfully lobby and attract the type of businesses we require, we just need someone who will take the lead on the Town's behalf. This can't be done from within Caledon and as mayor I will take an aggressive lead on this issue."

Marolyn Morrison

"I believe that a healthy community has all kinds of housing and jobs.  I would like to see more affordable housing within our new communities so that our children and our seniors can stay in our community.  The market dictates the price of housing and if there were enough people seeking lower priced housing I am sure that the market would take some of that into consideration, as we have tried to do in the new community of Mayfield West.  We have worked with the developer in Mayfield West to make sure that there is a wide variety of housing to suit the market place."
