Q5: How do you think Caledon can be part of a GTA transit strategy?

Mayoral Candidates:

Norm Calder

"Transit will always remain a difficult issue for a community that is as vast as Caledon.  As part of the G.T.A.,  we are entitled to GO transit and I know that the CPR will be  Twinning the rail on the East  and building a station in Bolton to provide transit into Toronto. I have had meetings with the Board of GO during my past term as Mayor to provide the GO bus service from Orangeville to Caledon Village,  to Caledon East,  to Bolton  and also Valleywood. Ridership and economic viability of transit will determine the future of these services."

Garry Moore

"Caledon needs to work more closely with GO transit if we expect them to take an interest in our community.  The best solution to reduce emissions and increase road safety is to find a workable commuter transit solution.  I believe that the Region is moving too slow in addressing commuter stations along Mayfield and as Mayor I will put much more pressure on the Region and GO to make these projects happen much much faster.  I also believe that it is time Caledon identifies a rail transit solution for the key urban areas. If land needs to be purchased to position ourselves for future use, then do it.  GO won't invest if the Town hasn't committed to the solution.  As mayor I will also strike a commuter task force to solicit ideas from all elements of our community and professionals with a view to tabling initiatives that have immediate tangibles."

Marolyn Morrison

"Caledon should be part of the Region of Peel Transit system such as York Region and Durham Region have. I believe that the new GTA Transportation Authority that has been created with Burlington Mayor, Rob McIsaac as its Chair will be dealing directly with GTA wide transit and I will be more than available both as Mayor of Caledon and as a Founder of the GTA Countryside Mayor's Alliance to give our input into what is in the best interest of the Town, the Region and the GTA."
