Replies to questions from the regional and area council candidates for Ward 5 listed in alphabetical order by last name:

Q5: How do you think Caledon can be part of a GTA transit strategy?

Regional Council Candidates:

Kelly Darnley

"My discussions with Town staff regarding public transportation, while participating on the Smart Commute committee, indicated a significant cost to taxpayers. During the population discussions, taxpayers were told that Bolton’s population of 26,000 was short of critical mass to rationalize the cost of public transportation. The ridership on the GO Route is still low. Caledon’s discussion of being part of the GTA transit strategy should concentrate on servicing the business districts bordering on the Mayfield Road east/west corridor."

"Peel Region is working on a strategy to make Caledon part of a Regional Transit System, like Vaughan.  We do need public transit, especially for teens and older seniors."

Jason Payne

"I think the first logical step would be to devise a regional transportation strategy that would service, Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga similar to the strategy that our neighbouring Region of York has already implemented."
