Municipal Election Watch - 2006 Replies to questions from the mayoral candidates listed in alphabetical order by last name: Q6: There appears to be a lack of housing appropriate for senior citizens and single persons. How do you propose to address this gap? Mayoral Candidates: Norm Calder "Housing for Seniors is a Regional responsibility. As a Regional Representative it will be necessary to lobby for additional accommodations to the maximum that the Housing Committee will allow." Garry Moore "Caledon needs to look at zoning solutions in the appropriate urban areas for higher density housing that fits within our landscape. I believe we also need to better facilitate private ventures looking at condominium solutions rather that putting up road blocks. Future developments MUST include all types of housing. Our younger and older generations need the appropriate housing if we are to truly mature into a sustainable community." Marolyn Morrison "During my tenure of nine years as the Regional Councilor for the Mayfield West Planning Area and as the Mayor for the past three years I have been consistent in my advocating for seniors housing. I even won an award for my work on this issue. The new community in Mayfield West is being planned with well planned and integrated seniors housing in the downtown core so that seniors will have the Commercial area accessible to them. We are actually looking at a few variations for seniors and I am very excited about what we can achieve for our senior population. We also are looking at having space allocated for a future Long Term Care Facility as well as the Senior Housing." |
