Municipal Election Watch - 2006 Replies to questions from the mayoral candidates listed in alphabetical order by last name: Q7: The Town of Caledon has committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from their operations and to helping members of community do the same. What is your vision for a community energy plan? Mayoral Candidates: Norm Calder "I believe that over the short term the energy to fuel our town vehicles is change. I would hope to see most of the fleet converted to produce minimal emissions . From a community perspective, I would expect to encourage residents to enter into Federal/Provincial insulation programs to reduce heating/cooling emissions." Garry Moore "My vision for a successful community energy plan is similar to what one would expect of their municipality. As minimum we must strive to improve our site planning and building designs, increase use of energy efficient equipment and technologies, increase use of renewable energy technologies, investigate alternate fuels, increase use of local and sustainable energy sources and monitor and lower our own gas emissions and other pollutants. Town Hall must clearly come out as a leader for the residents to follow. Finally the plan must be examined annually to ensure proper measurement of success and in order to take proactive measures to adjust deficient areas." Marolyn Morrison "We have tried to set an example for the community with the purchase of Bullfrog Power and our involvement in the Wind Power Committee. Our Economic Development Department has information for businesses that I brought back from a conference I attended that would help both residential, but in particular businesses when building new." "We have hired, as you are aware, an Environmental Progress Officer and her job is to bring innovative ideas to Council for discussion and hopefully for Councilors to Champion in the community. We are managing to move forward and I believe that by working with our Environmental Progress Officer, CEAC and the Caledon Countryside Alliance we can all work toward a practical, doable community energy plan. Do I have ideas, yes I do but I believe that we all need to work together to share our ideas so that we can go to the community with only the best." |
